“Where The Wild Things Are” is about a lonely and wild boy named Max
Sendak. It’s about a lonely and rambunctious boy named Max (Max Records). One night after biting his mother (Catherine Kenner), Max runs away. Finding a boat, he sails across the ocean to an island where the Wild Things are. After convincing the Wild Things – Carol (James Gandolfini), Judith (Catherine O’Hara), Ira (Forest Whitaker), Alexander (Paul Dano), Douglas (Chris Cooper), KW (Lauren Ambrose), and the Bull (Michael Berry Jr.)- not to eat him, he becomes their king. He promises to make everyone happy, but finds that he can’t because the problems are inside each of them, including himself. Before returning home, he discovers a secret about being a part of a family.
I think it’s an impressive movie, if not a little bit sad at times (partially due to the moody music). It is the kind of story that, I think, children of many ages will enjoy, just as children of many ages have enjoyed the book. However, it may not be suitable for pre-schoolers, because the Wild Things can be a little bit scary at times.
I was impressed how well Max Records portrayed Max. For an actor so young, he did an amazing job. Plus, the Wild Things were truly wild.
The special effects were great. When the ground shook or the trees shattered, you could almost feel it. I’m not entirely sure whether the Wild Things were computer animated or guys in body suits, but they looked real.
I give this movie 4 out of 5 Wild Things.

(Max Records) who runs away from home. Max discovers a far-off land where he meets the “Wild Things”, who don’t get along with each other as well as they would like. So, when Max says he is a king, they immediately assume he will fix their problems. But when things simply get worse, Max learns a valuable lesson.
The music was good and went along with the movie. The voice cast was well picked (James Gandolfini, Paul Dano, Catherine O’Hara, Forest Whitaker, Michael Berry Jr., Chris Cooper, Lauren Ambrose) and the wild things looked very real.
I was a little upset with the amount of arguing between the characters and how the wild things were left with most of their problems. The complexity of the characters and their relationships made it an interesting movie.
I give this movie 3 dancing stars.
