“Bah-Humbug! Ebenezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey) is the meanest and most miser-able man in Disney’s animation of the classic tale “A Christmas Carol” by Charles

The plot generally follows the story of “A Christmas Carol”. Yet, like every other version, it is told in a unique way that makes it worth watching, especially since it is

Dickens. The ghost of Jacob Marley (Gary Oldman), Scrooge’s seven-year-dead partner, comes back to warn Scrooge that he’s going to be visited by three ghosts: the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet To Come (all voiced by Jim Carrey). The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet To Come take him, and us, on a wild ride from some of his past Christmases, to the Christmas dinners of his nephew Fred (Colin Firth) and his clerk Bob Cratchit (Gary Oldman), to being chased down the streets of London by Death, and what will happen if he doesn’t change his ways.

I think this “A Christmas Carol” is a bit spookier (and funnier) than most other versions I’ve seen, and the 3D animation makes it worse. When the ghosts jump forward at Scrooge, it almost seems like they’re jumping out of the screen at you. It’s ironic that a family Christmas movie would be so spooky. Spooky or humorous, this film holds you until the very end. The animation was quite good (obviously). The soundtrack was complementary, though sometimes the movie was so intense that I didn’t notice the soundtrack. I am often amazed how Jim Carrey is able to carry his voice to such different pitches. He did it so well I didn’t even think that Scrooge, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet To Come were him!

I give this movie 4 Christmas honey-puddings.

animated. There were, however, some frightening moments that could make this movie a good children’s horror.

I think Jim Carrey did a very good job at voicing the young and old Scrooges and the three ghosts that visited him. I never would have guessed that he voiced them all. The other actors (Gary Oldman, Bob Hoskins, Colin Firth) were equally good at their parts.

I was confused by the scene where Scrooge and the Ghost of Christmas Present were inside a giant clock with Ignorance and Want. At the time, I just didn’t see what the point of the scene was.

The animation was excellent, especially the 3D effects. The music went along with the movie very well, and I was impressed with how real the moments when Scrooge flew seemed.
