For a while there was a buzz about a new movie in theaters by the name of Freedom Writers, and for those of you who have seen the film and loved it, I agree with you. It is an excellent movie. For those of you who haven’t see it, you don’t know what you’re missing.

The film’s setting is placed a few years after the Rodney King/L.A. riots when people were being killed left and right due to gang violence and hate between different races. It is the true story of Erin Gruwell (played by Hillary Swank) who tackles the job of teaching a class of freshman teenagers who not only have the intelligence of 5th graders, but are torn between having a life of success and a life where representing your gang can either get you in jail or in the city morgue. After listening to these gripping stories, Erin tries everything in her power to guide her students out of a world of hate and death, to a world where anything is possible.

Unfortunately, Freedom Writers is no longer at Rio 6, but hopefully after reading this, you have a reason to go rent this movie as soon as it is released on DVD.

And with that being said, I rate this film a 5.
